Mary is the priestess of our religion

“ Yes, gentlemen, Mary is a divine priestess, she is a great sacrificer who takes the place of all people and offers to God in their name the greatest and most worthy sacrifice that has ever been offered, presenting to him his unique Son, so holy, so pure, so innocent, which makes St Epiphanius call her the priestess of our religion . . . .
Oh blessed virgin, you truly are the priestess of our religion; you have put together in one sacrifice, the most perfect sacrifice which the earth has ever offered, the varieties of all the legal victims offered before; you could not have better merited this glorious quality of being the redemptrix of all people of which your son has willed you to be part.” Sermon 10 de la Purification, ib. p. 316.

Mary is the sovereign priestess

“For it is you, oh divine Mary, who are the priestess of our religion as St Epiphanius calls you. Offer then this holy sacrifice . . . . But today, as he is not in a condition of doing this by himself, as he has only been born forty days earlier, it is the holy Virgin who performs his function as priest . . . as sovereign priestess of our religion . . . Therefore Mary performs today in the Temple the function which Jesus will one day perform on Calvary, namely, she offers this innocent victim. It is necessary that she does so with the same dispositions he had and that this priestess of our religion be filled, to the extent that she is capable of it, with the same spirit which animated the sovereign priest.” Sermon 11 sur le même Mystère, ib. p. 356-358.
